Glass Balustrade Installation Monmouthshire

Bobs Case Study | DD Glass Balustrades

Project Brief

For this week’s installation, we have been lucky enough to be working in an idyllic location near Monmouth, installing our Easy-Rail 316 stainless steel balustrade system supplied by ourselves at DD Glass Balustrades on a domestic property.

Initial Consultation

When we first spoke with Bob, he loved the idea of a frameless glass balustrade system but had a budget in mind of around £10,000 for supply and fit of the glass balustrade system. With the large area we had to cover this wasn’t possible. We sat down with Bob and showed him a photo gallery of our work and decided to go with a 316 stainless steel balustrade system with 10mm toughened glass and a 42.2mm top hand rail as the wall was above the threshold of 600mm to comply with the required building regulations. The balustrade system cost for supply and fit was £8900 in total so we had met all objectives.

Ordering & Installation Process

After all objectives were met, our sub-contractor at LE landscapes took all required measurements for the installation of glass balustrade system and sent them to us for manufacturing. From receipt of order to installation our aim is to manufacture and complete the installation in a 4-week period. To order your balustrade system we require a 50% deposit on receipt of order as the glass balustrade system is bespoke to your property, the second 50% is required on delivery of materials and the final installation fee is to be paid on completion of installation and when all parties are happy. As Bob had a large project and other construction work that needed to be completed before we started the project, we ordered all required materials and kept the balustrade system at our factory ready for Bob to give us the go ahead and to speed up the process.

Project Hurdles?

Apart from the temperature the only issues that we met were the 50mm Indian sandstone coping stones. 15 masonry drill bits later the balustrade system had been installed.

Client Feedback/ Review

Thanks to Nathan and the team at dd glass balustrades for a quick and efficient service fitting our balustrade system. We had been recommended by a friend who had also used dd glass balustrades and were very pleased with the service.

Installation Process

The day of installation had arrived and being December in South Wales, the elements were not on our side with temperatures sitting around -2 degrees the thermals were out enforce…  As always, the men at EL Landscapes were not fazed and started the glass balustrade installation.

Stage 1
Once the frost had thawed the marking out process began with marking out the pre-assembled post centres.

Stage 2
Once all the balustrade post centres are marked the drilling process begins.

 Stage 3
We install the pre-assembled stainless steel balustrade end posts of each run and attach string lines on both top and bottom glass d clamps ready for the installation of the pre-assembled middle posts.

Stage 4
Once all posts are installed the 316 stainless steel ring spigots are glued into place and the 42.2mm stainless steel handrail is installed.

Stage 5
We now install the 10mm toughed glass to the balustrade system to complete the build.

Final stage
After the glass balustrade system is complete all stainless steel and 10mm toughened glass is inspected and cleaned thoroughly.
